Jean-Jacques Rousseau lived at Mont-Louis de Montmorency from 1757 to 1762, where he composed his greatest works: Julie ou la Nouvelle Héloïse, Du Contrat Social, Emile ou De l’éducation. La Maison des Commères (the House of Gossipers) includes a library specialized in the eighteenth century and local history (open to the public by appointment only).
